SUMMER SOLSTICE 2014

"Orion will fashion alert minds and agile bodies, souls prompt to respond to duty's call, and hearts which press on with unflagging energy in spite of every trial." [Manilius, Astronomica, p.305.].

Summer Solstice is a time to gently celebrate, reflect and rest. It is a time to nurture who we are and what we have achieved. There is a feeling for some of being frustrated that they haven’t achieved what they set out to do at the beginning of the year, ignoring what they have indeed achieved. Facing impatience and expectations are some of the challenges of the solstice.  Once we acknowledge what has been accomplished at all levels (mental, spiritual, emotional and physical) as we get closer to the Autumnal Equinox there will be a stronger sense of direction – like the lens of a camera coming fully into focus. By the Equinox we will be able to look back and see with clarity what this time has truly been about.  Note all the unexpected positive solutions and outcomes that have occurred – remember those “angels” we have met on the path.

This is about resourceful lasting growth especially having cleared once and for all any lack of confidence stemming from childhood issues – understanding there is no value in blaming the past and in subtle ways seeking revenge which only lead to reinforcing self doubt and staying in victim or sweeping things under the carpet. Many family, friendship and relationship issues will have been resolved and during the Summer there are opportunities for this to continue but there is an underlying challenge of self-honesty and understanding differences which may simply be about having respect and moving on peacefully.

Whatever has happened in the past 6 months, the solstice is a time for all the positive outcomes to fall into place together with lessons learned. We are entering a phase of letting go to approaching life aggressively and emerging into more gentle ways. You may be surprised by flashes of anger emerging unexpectedly, allow these to flow through you as they will be part of letting go of old wounds. Be aware of self righteous anger...

The theme of understanding issues of life and death still runs through this solstice literally and metaphorically. If we are afraid of death, we are also afraid of life. The Solstice is about the celebration of life and community as well as integrating any aspects of duality in our lives – one of these issues could be wanting to belong and a need for freedom.

This is hopefully leading to a sense of “coming home” and being true to ourselves...
